Amid the outbreak of violence in ethnic violence-hit Manipur, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity’s (COCOMI) has declared a state of ‘public emergency’, effective immediately.

Imphal, Manipur, September 7 (HBTV): Amid the outbreak of violence in ethnic violence-hit Manipur, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity’s (COCOMI) has declared a state of ‘public emergency’, effective immediately.

The COCOMI’s convener Khuraijam Athouba said the decision was in response to the rapidly escalating violence. He said the declaration comes after months of violence particularly after the recent drone and rocket attacks targeting civilians, which resulted in multiple casualties.

The people of Manipur especially the indigenous Meitei population are now facing a coordinated proxy war by the Indian government and its military allies, he claimed.

In this regard, the COCOMI has issued an ultimatum demanding concrete action from the Indian armed forces to address the crisis within five days. Failing which, the COCOMI threatened to take drastic steps to protect itself and the indigenous population, and would even take steps such as expelling the central forces from Manipur.
